Dubai school holidays vs UK

Dubai's crowd calendar is set by its visitors, not its schools. UK and European families drive the peaks — Christmas, February half-term and Easter are the busiest, most expensive weeks, when the weather is also at its best. The local Jul–Aug school break is the opposite: residents leave the 40°C heat, and hotel prices fall to their lowest of the year.

Dubai school holiday dates

Dubai follows the UAE federal Ministry of Education calendar, which sets unified term and break dates for public and private schools across the country (Dubai's private schools apply it through the KHDA framework). Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha breaks are fixed by moon sighting and announced close to the date, so they are not listed here.

Who else fills Dubai

The UK is the biggest source of visitors to Dubai, but Germany (17%) and others arrive on their own school calendars. The score tracks all of them — here's when their schools break, and the weeks it fills up whatever the UK is doing.

Busiest overlap: in December 2026, source markets worth 94% of Dubai's visitor nights are on school holiday at once.

Top tipJuly–August is Dubai's cheapest window — for a reason

UAE schools break for summer from early July and residents leave the 40–45°C heat, so hotels cut rates to their annual low. It is a pool-and-indoors trip, not a sightseeing one. For outdoor weather at a lower price than the Christmas peak, aim for the shoulder — late April to June, or October to November, when UK schools are mostly in term time.

December: the one time local and UK holidays align

Dubai's winter break runs 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, overlapping almost exactly with the UK Christmas holidays. This is the only point in the year when the two calendars coincide: Emirati and resident families are off school at the same time as the wave of UK and European visitors arriving for winter sun. The weather is at its best — daytime highs in the low-to-mid 20s°C, low humidity — and demand for hotels, beach clubs and brunches peaks accordingly. Rates over Christmas and New Year are the highest of the year. Booking several months ahead is normal for this window.

February half-term and Easter: inbound peaks, local term time

The UAE has no fixed February break, and its spring break (5–11 April 2027) is short. So through UK February half-term and much of the UK Easter holidays, local schools are in session — yet Dubai is still busy, because these are prime UK and European winter- and spring-sun weeks. The crowd you meet at Atlantis, the Marina or a desert camp in February is overwhelmingly made up of visitors, not local families. This is the pattern that makes Dubai different from a European destination: the score is driven by the source-market calendars (UK, Germany, France, Italy), which is why the finder weights them far more heavily than Dubai's own school terms.

The summer inversion: quiet because it's empty

From early July to late August, UAE schools are on their long summer break and a large share of residents travel abroad to escape the heat. Counter-intuitively, this makes Dubai one of the quieter and cheaper places to be — the opposite of what a school-holiday calendar alone would suggest, and the opposite of a Mediterranean beach destination in the same weeks. The honest caveat is the weather: 40–45°C by day limits outdoor time to early morning and evening. A summer trip works if it is built around indoor attractions, pools and air-conditioned malls. The crowd score reflects that summer is low-pressure, but it cannot see the heat — treat a low summer score as "cheap and uncrowded", not "pleasant outdoors".

October half-term: back in Dubai's term time

The UAE's first-term break falls 12–18 October 2026, ending before UK October half-term (most English councils break from around 26 October). During UK half-term, Dubai's schools are back in session. Late October is early in Dubai's cool season — temperatures easing into the low 30s°C — and prices have not yet climbed to the December peak, making UK October half-term a reasonable-value window for a winter-sun preview before the high season proper.

Dubai school holiday dates are the UAE federal Ministry of Education (MOE) unified calendar, announced February 2026 for 2026-27, 2027-28 and 2028-29, and cross-checked against Khaleej Times, Gulf News and whichschooladvisor.com (all fetched July 2026). The MOE calendar applies to public and private schools nationwide; individual Dubai private schools may shift the October half-term by a week and may add an optional February break. Eid breaks are omitted because they are set by moon sighting and not fixed in advance. Weighting note: Dubai is an inbound-visitor destination, so the crowd score is driven mainly by UK and European source-market school holidays rather than the local calendar; the largest real source markets not yet in the model are India, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
