The July window: summer starts three weeks early
Moroccan schools close for summer on 4 July 2026. English schools — the main driver of UK outbound demand — don't finish until around 21 July. That 17-day gap is structurally reliable: it appears every year because Morocco's academic year ends earlier than England's. Agadir beach hotels and Marrakech riads are operating at full summer capacity from early July, but the UK booking surge hasn't arrived. Prices in the first three weeks of July are consistently lower than the August peak. The same pattern applies in 2027: Moroccan schools close 3 July, English schools around 21 July.
No Christmas break: late December is off-peak
Morocco has no school holiday at Christmas or New Year. The Moroccan winter break falls in early December — 7–14 December 2025, 6–13 December 2026 — ending two weeks before UK schools close for Christmas. From around 20 December through early January, when UK demand is at its annual peak, Moroccan schools are in full session. Marrakech souks and Agadir resorts at Christmas run without domestic Moroccan school-holiday crowds. This makes late December one of the least-crowded periods of the year for a UK visitor: UK families are travelling, but Moroccan families are not on school holidays.
October half-term: back-to-back, not overlapping
Morocco's autumn break in 2026 runs 17–24 October. UK October half-term for most English local authorities starts 26 October. Morocco's schools return on 25 October — the day before UK half-term begins. The two breaks are consecutive rather than simultaneous. UK families travelling to Morocco during half-term (late October) arrive when Moroccan domestic school-holiday crowds have already dispersed. Marrakech and Agadir in the final week of October are in Moroccan term time, with the medinas and beaches noticeably quieter from a domestic perspective.
Five short breaks: the UK clash pattern
Morocco's five in-year breaks each last roughly one week. None closely match UK school holiday dates. The winter break (early December) ends before UK Christmas. The semester break (late January) misses UK February half-term by three weeks. The spring break (mid-March) doesn't align with UK Easter. The May break (first week of May) is during UK term time. This offset structure means Morocco is rarely simultaneously in school holiday mode from both the UK and Moroccan domestic perspective — a useful property for crowd-conscious travellers.
France is Morocco's largest visitor source market, and French school zones (A, B, C) break at different times in spring and winter. When French zone B or C breaks for Easter or spring holiday, Marrakech and the Sahara experience a surge from French family visitors even if UK schools are in session. The finder accounts for French school pressure alongside UK pressure.
