The quiet windows for UK families
UK October half-term is the standout opportunity. England's half-term (typically the last week of October) falls after most Swiss cantons have already finished Herbstferien and returned to school. Zürich's Herbstferien ends 18 October 2026; Lucerne's ends 11 October; Basel's ends 11 October. French-speaking Romandy (Geneva, Vaud) finishes by 25 October. February is the opposite: book early or avoid the peak. Sportferien falls in mid-February for most cantons, lining up almost exactly with UK February half-term.
