Irish schools closed for summer on 27 June 2026 — three to four weeks before English schools break up. Ireland is in full summer season now, but UK family demand doesn't peak until late July. October half-term nearly aligns; Christmas is near-identical.

Who else fills Ireland
The UK is one of the biggest markets for Ireland, but USA (11%) and others arrive on their own school calendars. The score tracks all of them — here's when their schools break, and the weeks it fills up whatever the UK is doing.
| Market | Share of nights | Summer schools out | vs UK |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ireland (local families) | 40% | 27 Jun – 31 Aug 2026 | 3 wks earlier |
| UK (you) | 38% | 21 Jul – 31 Aug 2026 | your dates |
| USA | 11% | not held | |
| Germany | 7% | 29 Jun – 14 Sep 2026 staggered | 3 wks earlier |
| France | 6% | 4 Jul – 31 Aug 2026 | 2 wks earlier |
Busiest overlap: in August 2026, source markets worth 91% of Ireland's visitor nights are on school holiday at once.

For Scottish families there is almost no advance window before Irish destinations fill up. English, Welsh and Northern Irish families get three to four weeks: late June to late July, Ireland is fully open but most UK family demand hasn't yet peaked.
The June gap
Irish primary schools close in the last week of June (around 26 June 2027). English schools don't finish until late July. That three-to-four week window is when the Wild Atlantic Way, Killarney, Connemara and Dublin are at their summer best: warm, staffed for the season, and full of Irish domestic visitors but not yet at UK peak demand.
Post-primary schools finish even earlier (typically around 19–20 June) because Leaving Certificate exams run from early June. From mid-June, most Irish secondary-age children are finished and many Irish families are already travelling.
Halloween: the closest alignment
In 2027, both Irish and English schools take the week of 25–29 October off. Ferry crossings to Dublin and Rosslare, Airbnbs in Kerry, and family hotels in Galway see a spike from both sides of the Irish Sea. Book well ahead or consider the week before, which falls in Irish term time and is quieter.
Christmas: effectively identical
Irish schools close 22 December and reopen 6 January, an almost exact match with English schools. The period 23 December to 5 January is a complete clash. Early December, before either country breaks up, is a genuinely quieter window for Dublin city breaks.
